OrCam – Portable Camera for Visual Impairment

I.T. Tech and Tips

This is the OrCam. A device created mainly for people who have various Visual Impairments.

It may look a lot like Google Glasses but in fact it is a lot simpler. It is a small camera that clips onto your own personal glasses. it is then connected to a small computing device that fits into your pocket. You then point to something and the camera snaps a picture and then reads it out for you. It is also learning more than just words, it is signs such as ‘green men’ for crossing roads, bus numbers, facial recognition.

Here is a video to give you a good demonstration of the device.

Before i got much further, this product is currently only available in the US and in English. They are already looking at getting across different regions and by that time I bet it does a lot more than it can now.
